Sermon 3: “Be It Unto Me”: Walking in Favour and Faith Like Mary

Stepping Out in Confident Trust

Step out in faith.
Step out in confident trust in the Lord, knowing this unshakable truth: God is good, and His goodness endures forever.

The psalmist David was so deeply persuaded of this that he boldly declared:

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

He wasn’t guessing. He wasn’t hoping. He was convinced. He knew—beyond all doubt—that God was his Shepherd, and that goodness and mercy were not occasional visitors but lifelong companions.

That same God is your God.
That same Shepherd is your Shepherd.
And that same goodness and mercy are assigned to your life.

I pray that you will experience the expression of God’s goodness and the tangible flow of His mercy following you all the days of your life—to the glory and praise of His name. Amen.

We are still encouraging ourselves about the urgent need to stand in faith in these last days. The times may be turbulent, but God’s Word is unchanging, and His faithfulness is unshakable.

Learning from Mary: A Portrait of Favoured Faith

Today, we look at an example of faith that still speaks powerfully to us: Mary, the young woman chosen to carry Jesus.

In Luke 1:26–38, we read that an angel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth. He came to a virgin, engaged to a man named Joseph, and this virgin’s name was Mary.

The angel’s greeting is remarkable:

“Greetings, O favoured one, the Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28)

What a way to be addressed. Before Mary had done anything, before she had “proved herself,” heaven’s first word over her was favour.

Let that sink in for a moment.

“O Favoured One”: Start Speaking God’s Truth Over Yourself

The angel’s greeting to Mary wasn’t just a historical detail—it’s a prophetic pattern.

“Greetings, O favoured one, the Lord is with you.”

Can you imagine waking up in the morning, looking at yourself in the mirror, and saying:
“Good morning, O favoured one. I am favoured.”

You might think, “But look at everything going on around me. It doesn’t feel like favour.”
Yes, it’s true—many things happen that do not line up with what we hoped, prayed, or expected. But faith does not deny reality; it declares God’s higher reality over it.

So today, by faith, declare:

  • I am favoured of the Lord.
  • I am favoured when I go out.
  • I am favoured when I come in.
  • I am favoured by day and favoured by night.
  • I am denied no good thing in Christ.
  • The best of God is happening in my life.
  • The best of God is taking place.
  • The best of God is manifesting in me and through me.

Why? Because God is your portion, and His glory will continually be revealed in your life.

This is not arrogance—it’s agreement.
It is the mindset of faith.

Start greeting yourself the way heaven greets you:

“I am favoured of the Lord.”
Just as Mary was favoured, you too are favoured in Christ. Hallelujah.

God Is Not Just For You—He Is With You and In You

The angel didn’t just call Mary “favoured.” He added:

“The Lord is with you.”

This truth didn’t end with Mary. It is a reality for every believer.

Scripture confirms it again and again:

  • Romans 8:31 – “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
God is not against you. He is for you.
  • He is not only for you—He is with you.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 reminds us:

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit…?”
The Spirit of God dwells in you.

  • Galatians 2:20 declares:

“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me… and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith…”

Your life is not random. Your life is established by the favour of God and the presence of God.

You can say with confidence:

“My life is established in the manifestation of the presence of God.”

As it was evident that Mary was favoured and that God was with her, may it be evident in your life that you are favoured and that the presence of God is active in you.

A Promise Beyond the Natural: The Message About Jesus

The angel continued speaking to Mary, unfolding a promise that went far beyond anything humanly possible:

“You will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
And the Lord God will give to Him the throne of His father David,
and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever,
and of His kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:31–33)

This was not an ordinary promise about an ordinary child.

No human king reigns forever. No earthly throne lasts without end. The angel was clearly speaking of One who is more than human—the eternal Son of God, the King of kings, whose kingdom has no end.

Sometimes God speaks to us about things that are so big, so supernatural, so beyond our human reasoning that our natural response is the same as Mary’s.

“How Can This Be?” – The Honest Question of a Human Heart

In verse 34, Mary asks a simple, honest question:

“How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

She wasn’t doubting God; she was acknowledging her reality.
Her question was sincere, human, and real.

There are moments in our lives when God’s promises seem to stretch us beyond what we can imagine:

  • “How can this be, Lord, with my background?”
  • “How can this be with my past?”
  • “How can this be with my limitations, my weaknesses, my lack?”

Sometimes God brings you to a place where your only honest response is:

“Lord… how can this be?”

And that’s okay.
Because His answer to you is the same answer He gave to Mary.

The Holy Spirit: God’s Power Working in and Through You

The angel explained:

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

Here is the key:
What God promises, God empowers.

Mary would not conceive by human strength, strategy, or ability. This was the work of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Most High.

In the same way, the walk of faith is not a walk of self-effort, but a walk of relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Faith is not just positive thinking.
Faith is trusting the God who is with you and in you, allowing His Spirit to work through you.

I pray that you will deeply know this:

  • That your journey of faith is a journey hand-in-hand with the Holy Spirit.
  • That your life will be surrounded by the power of God—on your left, on your right, before you, behind you, and within you.

May your life be filled with the power of God in every direction, to the glory of His name.
And by reason of His presence and power, may you see the fulfilment of everything God has spoken over your life.

The Faith Response: “Be It Unto Me According to Your Word”

After hearing the angel’s explanation, Mary responds with one of the most powerful faith declarations in Scripture:

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord;
let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)

This is how faith responds to the Word of God.
This is how faith responds to things that seem impossible.

Not:

  • “Let it be unto me according to my feelings.”
  • “Let it be according to my understanding.”
  • “Let it be according to my abilities.”

But:

“Let it be unto me according to Your word.”

May God Almighty bring you into this revelation—
that every time you read His Word, every time you hear His promises, something rises in you that says:

“Lord, let it be unto me according to Your word.”

Not according to your fears.
Not according to your doubts.
Not according to your limitations.

But according to His Word.

To respond in faith, you must first know His Word.
Faith is not vague. It is anchored in what God has spoken.

Stepping Into Your Season of Testimony

I pray that God will catapult you into your rightful place of testimonies
that you will step into the glorious purposes He has prepared for you in every area of your life.

  • Be blessed.
  • Be established in the favour of the Lord.
  • May it be visible that the power of the Most High is upon your life.

I pray that:

  • The power of God rests on your family.
  • The power of God rests on your business.
  • The power of God rests on your city.
  • The power of God rests on the ministry to which He has called you.

May the Holy Spirit mark you for divine testimonies.
May people look at your life and see the evidence of His favour and His presence.

A Final Charge: Walk in This Attitude of Faith

As you move forward, carry this attitude in your heart:

“Be it unto me according to Your word.”

Let this become your posture every time you:

  • Open your Bible
  • Hear a sermon
  • Receive a promise
  • Sense God speaking to your heart

Not according to your doubts.
Not according to your fears.
Not according to your own abilities.

But always:

“Lord, let it be unto me according to Your word.”

Walk in faith.
Walk in favour.
Walk in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

In Jesus’ mighty name—Amen.
