Sermon 1: “No Fear: Walking in the Light of God”

Introduction: Satan Has No Authority Here

There is a simple yet powerful line from a song that sets the tone for this entire message:

“He has no authority here in this place, Satan has no authority here.”

This is more than a lyric – it is a spiritual reality. Where the blessing of the Lord is manifesting, Satan has no legal right, no power, no authority. Everything the Lord has spoken over your life is meant to manifest for His glory and His praise, and the enemy cannot stop it.

We respond to this truth with worship:
We glorify God as our Father, King, Redeemer, Saviour, miracle worker and promise keeper. We thank Him that we are His children and that because He loves us, He has made us more than conquerors. This is not just theology; it is identity. Our identity is not defined by our failures, experiences, or fears, but by what God says about us.

This is the starting point: in Christ, Satan has no authority over your destiny. The Lord’s blessing is manifesting, and you are part of that manifestation.

I. Identity in Christ: More Than Conquerors

Before we deal with fear, we must settle who we are.

Let’s make the confession:

“Precious Lord, I am more than a conqueror. That is who I am.”

This is not a motivational slogan; it is a declaration aligned with God’s Word. As believers, we are called to manifest God – the fullness of who He is. That means we are not only receivers of His grace, but also carriers of His nature.

We are called to manifest:

  • His praise – a lifestyle that honours Him.
  • His wisdom – divine insight for decisions and challenges.
  • His love – in the way we treat people.
  • His strength – in times of pressure and weakness.
  • His power and authority – over the works of darkness.

So repeat this:

“I am more than a conqueror.
I manifest God.
I manifest the fullness of all He is.
I manifest His praise.
I manifest His wisdom.
I manifest His love.
I manifest His strength.
I manifest His power and His authority.”

This manifestation is not limited to religious spaces. Declare it over every area of life:

  • In business – you manifest His wisdom and integrity.
  • In school – you manifest His understanding and favour.
  • In marriage and family – you manifest His love and patience.
  • In church – you manifest His service and humility.
  • In relationships with others – you manifest His kindness and righteousness.

We are not just surviving spiritual battles – we are walking as expressions of God’s victory . You manifest His authority, His power, and His victory over Satan, over darkness, and over every activity of darkness—to His glory. You are the manifestation of His glory in these times.

Why is this possible? Because Christ in you is the hope of glory (cf. Colossians 1:27). Wherever you show up as a believer, it is an announcement: “The glory of the Lord in Jesus Christ has come to manifest itself here.”

We thank God for the privilege of being His vessels on earth: He flows through us, works through us, and manifests Himself through us. We thank Him for victory over sin, Satan and self.

This is why it is so important to go back to these declarations, to repeat them, to turn them into your prayer, your confession, your stance. They are a way of standing in who we really are as we move through the week and advance in what God has anointed us to do.

II. The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation: The End of Fear

The heart of the message turns to a well-known yet deeply powerful verse:

Psalm 27:1“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

I sense from the Holy Spirit: God is speaking to someone—“Do not fear.”

You are hearing many things, seeing many things, even experiencing many things that raise questions in your heart:

  • What is God doing?
  • Where is God in the midst of all this?

When circumstances are confusing or painful, it is easy to question God’s presence or His plan. God’s answer is still simple and profound: “I am your light and your salvation. I am the stronghold of your life.” These are the first two great reasons why you do not have to fear:

  1. He is your light.
  2. He is your salvation.

He is also called the stronghold – the fortress – of our lives.

For this to move from Bible verse to personal revelation, you must accept and meditate on it until it becomes your truth: “God, You are my light. God, You are my salvation.”

III. Acknowledging Darkness Without Being Ruled by It

Living by faith does not mean denying physical reality. The message clearly acknowledges that there is darkness in the world:

Yes, there is:

  • A devil,
  • Demons,
  • Wicked men and women used by the enemy,
    • People who willingly yield themselves to the enemy,
    • And others who do not yield, yet the enemy tries to use or pressure them.

The works of darkness are real and present. They must be recognised, not ignored. We do not live in denial.

But much more importantly, you must acknowledge that your God is your light. That means you are literally walking with victory in manifestation daily. Anything you can identify as darkness, the light can overcome, expose, and defeat.

Jesus said:

John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

And in John chapter 1 we read that:

In Him was life, and that life was the light of men, and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (cf. John 1:1–5, paraphrased)

In Jesus is the light that gives life to humanity, and darkness cannot put it out. Therefore, when you say, “God, You are my light,” you are saying:

  • I am walking in a victory that darkness cannot reverse.
  • Anything that can be identified as darkness in my life or environment is something the light of God can overcome, expose, and destroy.

Through Jesus Christ, God has placed a once-and-for-all stamp of victory over the powers of darkness.

IV. A New Perspective on Fear: God for Us

The message echoes the question from Romans:

Romans 8:31“If God be for us, who can be against us?”

If the Lord is truly for you, what can man ultimately do to you? What can situations and circumstances do that will overthrow God’s purpose in your life?

Jesus also warned His disciples about a misplaced fear:

Matthew 10:28 (paraphrased)Do not fear those who can only kill the body but cannot touch the soul. Rather fear the One who can deal with both body and soul.

In other words, we are called to be more concerned with our relationship with God than with human threats or external pressure. This gives perspective. Whatever you are going through in your flesh, in your body, in your conditions:

  • Do not submit in fear to man.
  • Do not let circumstances dictate your identity.
  • Stand your ground.
  • Believe in the God of victory.
  • Trust in His authority and His power.

He is your light. Speak it, meditate on it, and let it sink deep into your heart until fear loses its hold on your heart.

V. Prophetic Promise: Everlasting Light and the End of Mourning

We move to a prophetic promise:

Isaiah 60:20 (paraphrased)“Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.”

This verse speaks of a future prophetic time, but it is also presented as a present revelation of God’s heart we can receive now, in the middle of our situation.

Apply it prophetically:

  • The days of mourning—coming to an end.
  • The tears—coming to an end.
  • The sorrows—coming to an end.
  • The anxieties—coming to an end in Jesus’ name.

The everlasting light of God swallows up the darkness that fuels your grief and worry in Jesus’ name. Amen

VI. Rising from Falls and Stagnation

Next, we hear the defiant song of faith:

Micah 7:8 (paraphrased)“Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.”

This verse speaks to falls and to stagnation.

When you sit in darkness, you are not moving. You are stationary, grounded in one place, apparently stuck. The enemy loves seasons where you appear stuck, pinned down by circumstances, trapped in a dark corner. Many people know what it is like to feel immobilised – emotionally, spiritually, or circumstantially. Yet even there, His promise stands.

The Word of God says:

  • “When I fall, I shall rise.”
  • “When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.”

Even when darkness seems to have grounded you, there is a divine interruption: the Lord becomes your light right there.

The enemy may think you are finished, but God says, “You will arise.” The believer answers darkness with a conviction:

“My enemy, do not rejoice over me. I may have fallen, but I will rise. I may be sitting in darkness, but the Lord is my light. My redemption is here.”

Your fall is not your final chapter. There is no activity of darkness that has the final say. Your story is not defined by the fall, but by the rising to the glory of God’s name.

VII. The Lord Our Sun and Shield: Favour and Protection

Finally, we consider another powerful promise:

Psalm 84:11 (paraphrased) – “The LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Here we see three key truths:

  1. The Lord is a sun – He is your source of light, warmth, direction, and life.
  2. The Lord is a shield – He is your protection, your defence against attacks, seen and unseen.
  3. The Lord bestows favour and honour – He gives grace; He lifts you; He covers you with honour.

He is not a reluctant giver. The Scripture says He does not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. The One who is your light is also your shield, your favour, your honour. This is relevant right now.

Declare this in the present tense:

“Right now, the Lord is my sun.
Right now, the Lord is my shield.
He is releasing favour over my life.
He is placing honour on my life.
He withholds no good thing from me as I walk uprightly.”

VIII. Walking It Out This Week: Refusing Fear, Advancing in Light

All of these truths must move from sermon to lifestyle. They are meant to shape how we live this week and beyond.

This week, in Jesus Name:

  • You will not walk in fear.
  • You will not live under worry and anxiety.
  • You will not remain in a place of stagnation or defeat.

Not because challenges disappear, but because God is your light.

His light:

  • Breaks the power of stagnancy in your life.
  • Lifts you from sitting in darkness.
  • Enables you to rise after a fall.
  • Stops the enemy from rejoicing over your situation.
  • Leads you from glory to glory.
  • Covers you with protection as a shield.
  • Releases favour and honour over your life.

Make a closing declaration:

“This week, I refuse fear.
The Lord is my light and my salvation; I will not fear.
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; I will not be afraid.
When I fall, I shall arise.
When I sit in darkness, the Lord is a light to me.
The Lord is my sun and my shield.
He bestows favour and honour on me.
No good thing does He withhold from me as I walk uprightly.
I advance from glory to glory.
I declare the victory of the Lord.
I experience supernatural turnarounds.
My heart is filled with the truth of His light.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

The invitation is clear: remain blessed, advance forward, declare the victory of the Lord, and expect supernatural turnarounds. Amen

Fill your heart with the truth that God is your light. Let your words, your thoughts, and your decisions align with this reality. As you do, you will experience what it means to live as a manifestation of His glory, even in challenging times.
